Reserializing Color Finesse 3 LE as Installed by After Effects CS5

Problem

If an incorrect registration code is entered into the version of Color Finesse LE installed by Adobe After Effects CS5, and demo mode pink lines are superimposed over the image, it is necessary to force Color Finesse to give you another opportunity to enter the registration code so you can enter the correct one.

Solution

If you are using the version of Color Finesse 3 LE installed as part of the Adobe After Effects installer, there are different procedures to follow for Macintosh and Windows computers, which are outlined below.

If you have installed Color Finesse 3 LE using an installer downloaded from our website, you can re-enter a different registration code by simply re-running the installer.

Macintosh Solution

To force Color Finesse to ask for the registration code again on a Windows system, perform the following steps:

  1. In your user home folder, open the Library folder. (Note that under Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and later the Library folder is normally hidden. If you are running 10.7, read this Adobe Knowledge Base article for instructions on how to access the Library folder.)
  2. Within the Library folder, open the Preferences folder.
  3. Within the Preferences folder, locate the file "Color Finesse 3 UI Preferences.plist" and drag it to the trash.
  4. Restart After Effects.
  5. Open a project, select a layer and apply Color Finesse to the layer.
  6. You'll be once again prompted for the Color Finesse registration code. Enter the correct one and you'll be up and running with no pink lines.

Windows Solution

To force Color Finesse to ask for a registration code again on a Windows system, perform the following steps:

  1. In the Windows Start menu, choose "Run..."
  2. In the "Open:" text box, enter "regedit" and click OK.
  3. You may get a prompt about needing permission to continue. If you do, click Continue.
  4. The regedit application will open and you'll see a list of items on the left side of the window.
  5. If not already open, twirl open the item labeled "Computer"
  6. Twirl open the item labeled "HKEY_CURRENT_USER"
  7. Under that, locate and twirl open the item labeled "Software"
  8. Under that, locate and twirl open the item labeled "Synthetic Aperture"
  9. You should now see a item labeled "Color Finesse 3". There may be multiple versions of Color Finesse installed, so be sure you locate the correct item for the version you want to re-serialize.
  10. Right-click on the "Color Finesse 3" item. You should now see something similar to:

  11. Choose Delete from the popup menu.
  12. You'll be asked to confirm the deletion. Click Yes.
  13. Close the regedit window.
  14. Restart After Effects.
  15. Open a project, select a layer and apply SA Color Finesse 3 to the layer.
  16. You'll be once again prompted for the Color Finesse 3 registration code. Enter the correct one and you'll be up and running with no pink lines.
