Using Color Finesse with Avid® Editing Systems

Color Finesse can be used within many Avid editing systems by using the Profound Effects® Elastic Gasket™ product. This article explains how to install and use the necessary software.
What Is Elastic Gasket™? Elastic Gasket is an AVX plug-in from Profound Effects®. It provides an Avid system with the ability to run many of the available After Effects plug-ins, including Color Finesse. Some Avid editing systems include Elastic Gasket as part of the system. In other cases, you will need to license Elastic Gasket for your system. For more information on Elastic Gasket, including pricing and ordering information, visit the Profound Effects website. A demo version of Elastic Gasket is available on the website so that you can try it with Color Finesse before making a purchase. Supported Avid Editing Systems Elastic Gasket requires an Avid editing system that supports AVX™ 1.5 or later, such as:
Installing Elastic Gasket on Your Avid Editing System If Elastic Gasket is not already installed, please see the Profound Effects Elastic Gasket User Guide (available on the Profound Effects web site) for installation instructions. Elastic Gasket must be installed prior to installing Color Finesse. Installing Color Finesse on Your Avid Editing System To install Color Finesse for use with your Avid software, download the appropriate Color Finesse installer for your Macintosh or Windows system. Be sure to use the installer for Avid systems, as the installer for After Effects will not work correctly. Run the Color Finesse installer by double-clicking on its icon. Step through the installation process until you reach the point where you are asked to choose the plug-in folder to install into. Choose the AVX plug-ins folder for your Avid software. On Windows systems, the AVX plug-ins folder is usually C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX_Plugins. On Macintosh systems, the AVX plug-ins folder is usually the AVX_Plug-Ins folder within the SupportingFiles folder, which is in turn located within the Avid application folder. The exact location may differ depending on system configuration. You should, however, always install Color Finesse into the same folder which contains the Elastic Gasket plug-in. Using Color Finesse Within the Avid Software Once installed, you will see Color Finesse listed as an available effect, within the Synthetic Aperture folder:
The Color Finesse effect is applied to a clip just like any other effect. Once applied, you will see the following settings in the Effect Editor window:
These Effect Editor settings are actually provided by the Elastic Gasket plug-in. To access the Color Finesse settings, make sure you have selected the Show Custom Controls setting, as shown above. To ensure that previews within Color Finesse are shown as full-height frames, also select the Fields as frames setting. Color Finesse uses a custom user interface, which will be shown within the Composer overlay when the Show Custom Controls setting is selected.
To access the Color Finesse UI and begin color correction, click the Setup button displayed in the Composer overlay; this will start the Color Finesse UI. For further information on using the Color Finesse UI, please refer to the Color Finesse User's Guide.
