Platforms/Versions

Color Finesse 3 LE, as installed by Adobe After Effects CS5.

Problem

The supplied black-and-white filmstock presets—for Eastman Kodak 5222 Double-X and Eastman Kodak 5231 Plus-X—do not actually appear to be black-and-white when applied to footage.

Solution

This problem is resolved in version 3.0.1 of Color Finesse. You can download the latest version of Color Finesse from the Downloads page.

The underlying problem is that Secondary correction previewing is erroneously turned on after the presets are applied.

To work around this problem, apply the black-and-white filmstock preset, then select the Secondary controls tab. Select channel F and un-check the Show Preview checkbox.

You will need to perform this workaround each time you apply a B&W filmstock preset.
